Whale Watching

Blue whales and sperm whales off the southern coast

Book This Ride

Sri Lanka is one of the few places in the world where blue whales — the largest animal to have ever lived — can be spotted with relative reliability, thanks to the deep continental shelf running close to shore near Mirissa. Sperm whales, spinner dolphins and occasionally orcas round out the sightings on a typical trip.

Boats leave early to maximise calm-water viewing time before the wind picks up, so a punctual harbour transfer matters. SL Taxi runs regular early-morning routes to Mirissa from the south coast and to Trincomalee for the east-coast season, timed to your boat's departure.
