Rock ClimbingSri Lanka's granite outcrops and rock faces — many of them ancient monastery sites — offer a growing rock climbing scene for both scramblers and roped climbers. Ella Rock and the cliffs around Bible Rock (Bathalegala) near Kandy are popular with local climbing groups, and several operators now run guided routes with gear included.
Most climbing sites are a walk from the nearest road, and equipment adds bulk to your luggage. SL Taxi can drop you at the trailhead nearest your climb and wait or return at an agreed time, so gear transport isn't the thing standing between you and the rock face.
